For those who like to go into the chat rooms or for those who have children, you will want to know how online predators work. You will want to know these things because they don’t just prey on the young children, but also very nice, openly attractive women. Also don’t even be afraid to think that a woman can’t be a predator. There is a very recent case in England where two women have been convicted of sexual offences against toddlers!! Admittedly they didn’t find the toddlers on the internet but that’s where they found each other.

The way that predators will work is they will try to get others to talk to them in chat rooms, by email, or through instant messaging. They target many children  but they always look for people who are vulnerable.  They will try to get you to trust them, and very quickly.

They try to establish a connection to the person within the first fifteen minutes. You will find that they will try to seduce you through the attention they give you and how much effort and time they give you. They may gradually try to introduce sexual content into their conversations or give you some sexually graphic material.

These people will also try to show some interest in the things that you like, such as music, movies, clothes etc.  There are some people who work quickly trying to get a quick “date” or there are some people who could talk to you for weeks before they mention the sexual topics. They will want to meet you offline and that is what will really put you at risk. You do not want to give out any information that could lead others to you directly or indirectly.

Directly, is by telling the person your full name or address, but indirectly would be through the various sites online with your information on it. You do not want to feed the stalker’s means of hurting you.

You should think, at the back of your mind, that everyone online could be a predator. Anyone is at risk, but especially teenagers and younger women. There are some women predators, but they are rare, however, when you go online you are meeting the world. Your chances of meeting an online predator will increase.

The reason why teenagers are mostly targeted is that they are very vulnerable. They are at risk from predators because they are attracted by  someone taking in interest in them or  showing them some attention. You may be able to save your children from online predators if you make them feel important and give them your attention when they need it or want it.
